Scholarships
The Betty Peting Traveling Fellowship recipient is chosen each year to receive $5,000 toward funding travel outside of North America that will advance his or her research or study aspirations in architecture and/or its preservation. Eligible candidates will be in their final quarter of graduate study spring or summer quarter 2009, will be declared majors in architecture or historic preservation, can travel within 120 days of graduating, and can demonstrate consistent academic excellence. Recipients must submit a detailed, written narrative documenting the trip and/or deliver a lecture in Lawrence Hall at the conclusion of traveling. Available to enrolled majors in an undergraduate or graduate program in the school of Architecture & Allied Arts. Eligible applicants will have a demonstrated interest in cross-disciplinary work within A&AA, and will demonstrate academic merit and financial need. Applications will be available November 1, 2009.
Announced in Winter term and awarded in Spring term to master’s students who are in the completion stage of their master’s degree and working on a thesis, master’s or terminal project. Strong preference will be given to students pursuing research activities or creative work. Applications for the Dean’s Graduate Fellowships are available the first week of classes for winter quarter, Monday, January 4, 2010.
The Ellen M. Pennell Award is available to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled as majors in any discipline within the School of Architecture and Allied Arts. Three awards of $1,000 each are distributed winter term. Awards are limited to those applicants who demonstrate academic merit and financial need (must have filed and processed a current FAFSA application). The University of Oregon's Center for Asian and Pacific Studies (CAPS) has been awarded a $778,000 federal grant for Foreign Language and Areas Studies (FLAS) fellowships for academic years 2006-2010. The FLAS program provides tuition and a generous stipend for UO graduate students who are US citizens or permanent residents doing advanced language training in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean in combination with area studies, international studies, or international aspects of professional studies.
